Dill-ightful Armadillo Sighting

Hey peeps!
Today I’m going to tell you about a dill-ightful armadillo sighting. Mom woke me up at 6:AM (so early!) to go walking. I pulled the blanket over my head and she pulled it right off. I groaned and put on my sneakers.

Somehow, she did not feel like it was early at all! We started walking and she moved aside suddenly to check the weather. Then we began to walk again.

We started to walk on a very long path. There were a few people on the road, and they were really nice! It was so quiet and there was a slight breeze.

Then I heard some weird noises. Some scuffling and grunting. I looked to my right and I gasped. I saw a shiny animal making the noise. It was so cute! I nudged Mom’s shoulder. She looked and she gasped too.

I was confused at first and thought it was an armadillo or an anteater. I looked closely and it was an armadillo because it had armor and nine bands on its back. It was scavenging for food. Armadillos love snails, ants, grasshoppers, cockroaches, and even scorpions!

I wanted to touch the armadillo, but I didn’t because some armadillos have leprosy. Leprosy is a disease. The armadillos might spread the disease to humans.

Armadillos are not native animals of Florida, but they are still here. Armadillo means “little armored one,” and that name suits the armadillo!

I also found out that a special feature that armadillos have that other animals do not have. Their armor! Their armor helps them survive in the wild. They can block bullets, and other harmful things. I kept on staring at it and then it ran into a bush! Armadillos are not very social creatures.

I’m so happy that I came walking with my mom! If I had not come, I wouldn’t have seen this amazing animal!
